Gun Violence: The Facts

9 out of 10 Americans agree that we should have universal background checks, including 3 out of 4 National Rifle Association members. The NRA and its deep-pocketed supporters have thwarted effective, common sense gun control measures in the United States leading to these grim statistics:

  • In 2020, 45,222 people died from gun-related injuries in the U.S*
  • 41k Americans die from Gun Violence every year- an average of more than 110 per day**
  • Guns are the leading cause of death for children under 18***
  • 1,220 firearm deaths occurred in Michigan, 38% of deaths by homicide, 61% suicide****

Despite these grim and sobering statistics, meaningful gun violence prevention legislation continues to be thwarted by politicians influenced by powerful lobbies with deep pockets.
